Watch: President Biden Unexpected Fall At Air Force Graduation Ceremony

He fell on a sandbag while handing out diplomas during the US Air Force Academy graduation.

After Thursday’s incident, Mr. Biden, 80, was hoisted up and appeared unharmed.

“I got sandbagged!” the president joked to reporters upon returning to the White House that evening.

He stood for an hour and a half to shake hands with 921 graduating cadets.

Mr. Biden appears to point at one of two sandbags used to prop up his teleprompter while an Air Force official and two Secret Service agents assist him.

After the ceremony, he walked to his seat and ran to his motorcade.

“There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands,” White House communications director Ben LaBolt tweeted. “He’s fine.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Mr. Biden boarded the plane with “a big smile,” but one reporter remarked that he did not answer questions before the flight.

Critics say Mr. Biden is too elderly to run for president again.

His elderly age worries most US voters, according to polls. If re-elected, he would be 82.

This fall, along with his bicycle and Air Force One staircase missteps, may raise those worries.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican favorite to face Mr Biden in the 2024 White House election, said “The whole thing is crazy” from a campaign rally in Iowa.

“I hope he wasn’t hurt,” added Mr. Trump, 76, who routinely mocks Mr. Biden’s age. “That’s not inspiring.”

“Be careful because you don’t want that. “Even if you have to tiptoe down the ramp,” Mr. Trump said, referencing his 2020 stage exit.

The ramp at the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, proved treacherous, and he dismissed media queries about his health as fake news.

“We hope and wish Joe Biden a swift recovery from any injuries he may have sustained,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said in New Hampshire.

“But we also wish the United States of America a swift recovery from the injuries it has sustained because of Joe Biden and his policies.”

February was Mr. Biden’s last physical.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, White House physician, wrote: “The President remains fit for duty, and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations.”

Dr. O’Connor said Mr. Biden has a “stiffened gait” due to spine wear and nerve damage in his feet, but his status was unchanged from a November 2021 examination.

Mr. Biden is not the first commander-in-chief to stumble on television.

In 1975, President Gerald Ford stumbled down Air Force One’s stairs, while President Barack Obama tripped upstairs at a 2012 ceremony.
