Tim Wakefield Appeals For Privacy After Curt Schilling Discloses Cancer News!

Tim Wakefield and his wife are requesting privacy after former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling published their cancer diagnoses on his podcast without their permission.

Schilling disclosed Wakefield and his wife are both suffering very serious health conditions on a recent podcast, and he went into depth regarding each instance.

“We are aware of the statements and inquiries about the health of Tim and Stacy Wakefield,” the Red Sox said in a statement on behalf of the Wakefields. “Unfortunately, this information has been shared publicly without their permission. Their health is a deeply personal matter they intended to keep private as they navigate treatment and work to tackle this disease.”

Wakefield, 57, is a Red Sox Hall of Famer who pitched his renowned knuckleball for the team for 17 seasons. Wakefield returned to NESN’s pregame and postgame coverage of Red Sox games after retiring in 2011. He joined the booth as a color commentator this season.

“To say that people with the Sox and others around Tim and Stacy are furious is an understatement,” Abraham posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The Red Sox were obligated to handle the Wakefield matter following Schilling’s unapproved statements, which he even admitted he hadn’t received permission from the Wakefields to make.

“F— you Curt Schilling, that wasn’t your place!” Catherine Varitek, the wife of former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, tweeted on X (previously Twitter), while sports blogger Robbie Johnson said, “Pulling for Tim Wakefield and loathing Curt Schilling all at once.”

Wakefield, an All-Star knuckleballer, won the World Series twice during his 17-year career with the Red Sox. At the age of 45, he retired in 2012, little than a year after winning his 200th professional race.
