A truck hauling a shipping container went off the road. It crashed into multiple vehicles on Friday evening in Londiani, western Kenya, ki!!ing at least 48 people, according to police and witnesses.
Local television stations published footage of the accident’s aftermath, which showed minibuses, lorries, and cars and motorcycles in twisted ruins.
Tom Odera, the regional police chief, reported that as of Friday night, 48 people had d*ed.
“I saw a speeding oncoming trailer. I swerved and escaped hitting him head-on. The person who was behind me thought I wanted to buy something. He overtook me and that is when he was hit. The trailer went off the road and hit other vehicles,” said Peter Otieno, a driver.

“With my own eyes, I counted roughly 20 bodies. Other bodies could be seen underneath the car.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, the lorry hit more than six cars and ran over pedestrians. According to the Red Cross, more than 20 injured were transported to nearby hospitals.
Kenyan President William Ruto tweeted, “The country mourns with the families who have lost loved ones in a horrific road accident in Londiani.”
