According to “48 Hours,” Paul Murdaugh had a blood alcohol level of.24 after the accident, which is three times the legal limit.

Investigators found that despite being young, the group of pals had been drinking and having a good time all night. Paul Murdaugh was seen on surveillance footage drinking alcohol from a convenience shop at one point and taking shots later that evening just before the deadly collision. Police officers reportedly found a beer cooler at the scene of the boat crash.

According to some of the survivors, Paul Murdaugh was driving erratically before the collision.

Altman reportedly said to investigators, “Paul was simply driving, doing doughnuts.”

Connor Cook attempted to take the wheel once, according to Altman, but Paul Murdaugh stopped him.

Altman reportedly stated, “He’s like, ‘No, this is my boat, like let me drive,'” according to “48 Hours.”

Altman further asserted that Paul Murdaugh turned down requests for boarding from some of the guests. Around 2:20 in the morning, the boat struck the Archers Creek Bridge, throwing Beach into the sea. Connor Cook informed the 911 operator when he “On Archer’s Creek, a boat crash has occurred. Six of us are present, and one is absent.”

The other four passengers were transferred to a nearby hospital after emergency personnel arrived. Anthony Cook decided to remain at the site, and the footage from the police cameras showed him to be visibly upset.

Hospital staff reportedly informed investigators that they observed Alex Murdaugh moving between rooms in an effort to speak with the other survivors, as reported by “48 Hours.” Also, a security guard claimed that while he was on the phone, he said, “She has left. Not to worry.”

On March 3, 2019, around five miles downstream from the location of the boat collision, Beach’s body was discovered more than a week later.

On April 18, 2019, Beach’s 20th birthday, Murdaugh was charged with three felonies for sailing while intoxicated. On all three counts, he entered a not-guilty plea. He passed away before going to trial.
