The mandatory evacuation order for the East Fork Fire was reduced to pre-evacuation warnings.
Residents living north of milepost 146 on Highway 93 up to milepost 157.9 are affected by the change in status. Pre-evacuation advisories are also in effect for Good Creek Road residents and anyone who uses Good Creek to access areas west of the Lincoln County line.
On August 17, all advisories were still in effect. Officials issue a warning to returning residents who could need to evacuate once again quickly.
August 18, 2023: Pre-Evacuation Warning Declared for Highway 93 Corridor
August 18, 2023, Evacuation Order has been downgraded to a PRE-EVACUATION WARNING and will go into effect at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023, for all properties north of mile marker 146 on Highway 93 to mile marker 157.9 — Lincoln/Flathead County line, and for residents of Good Creek Road and those who access Good Creek west to the Lincoln County line.

On Thursday, August 17, 2023, all PRE-EVACUATION alerts were still in force. Under a Pre-Evacuation Warning, residents may go back to their houses, but they may also need to evacuate right away again if necessary. The process for issuing an evacuation order will start over if it is determined that doing so is required.
